As an organizational psychologist at Wharton, Adam Grant has studied generosity for a decade and a half. Ever since he published his bestselling book Give and Take and wrote his viral New York Times op-ed on raising a moral child, parents have been asking him for a children's book on the topic. But where to begin? Enter: Allison. As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, writer, and mom to their three children, Allison Sweet Grant knew just where to begin with a funny, engaging picture book that would delight their own kids.Diana Schoenbrun is an illustrator, author, designer, and puppet builder. (She has been a Miss Piggy specialist for two Muppet movies.) She received her BFA in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design and a MFA in Illustration from the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Adam Grant, the bestselling author of Give and Take, teams with his wife, Allison, to share the lighthearted tale of a gift in search of a giver--a classic in the making.

A mysterious gift box finds himself in search of someone to open him, but nobody seems to be the right one. After disheartening interactions with grabby kids, selfish siblings, and other single-minded would-be recipients, the box wonders if he'll ever find someone deserving of him. Could that someone be the very person who's reading the book itself?

Give the gift of this clever, earnest book about generosity--a new and nourishing fable for every child's library (and one that includes a delightfully innovative cover approach that requires the reader to unfasten the Velcroed cover for a fun unboxing effect!).

A sweet book with a message In today's culture of "Me, me, me..." this little book sends the message of generosity. A thoughtful piece by the Grants who have collaborated on how to make their children aware of the importance of values. The illustrations make it appealing to young children.Sweet, witty book with a valuable message about giving This book is wonderful, with witty little puns and a beautiful message for kids about choosing generosity. It sparked discussions with my 4 and 7 year old daughters about what we can do every day to show generosity and kindness to others as a “gift” to give, and what others do for us to show generosity as “gifts” we get that are more precious than toys. Highly recommend this book to all parents!CUTE BOOK THAT ENCOURAGES GENEROSITY ARTWORK: Cute.STORY: Adorable.MESSAGE: A one-star reviewer complained that the message was a “hamfisted morality tale”, a “mawkish, awful, guilt-tripping book, you only deserve presents if you don’t want presents.” That might be overstating it a bit. The reality is that kids do want presents and this is the age of “gimme gimme gimme get get get”. That is not something that is going to go away. Christmas, for example, is a lot more about “what am I going to get?” than “what am I going to give to others?” Anything we, as parents, can do to instill a little generosity and encourage them to think outside themselves is a good thing. Think of this book as a conversation starter.BOTTOM LINE: Read this book with your children for the same reason you teach them that donating gifts to an Angel Tree at Christmastime is a good thing to do.
