Title: Little Shoes Pdf The Sensational Depression-Era Murders That Became My Family's Secret
But decades later, Pamela Everett, a lawyer and former journalist, starts digging, following up a cryptic comment her father once made about a tragedy in their past. Her journey is uniquely personal as she uncovers her family's secret history, but the investigation quickly takes unexpected turns into her professional wheelhouse.
Everett unearths a truly historic legal case that included one of the earliest criminal profiles in the United States, the genesis of modern sex offender laws, and the last man sentenced to hang in California. Digging deeper and drawing on her experience with wrongful convictions, Everett then raises detailed and haunting questions about whether the authorities got the right man. Having revived the case to its rightful place in history, she leaves us with enduring concerns about the death penalty then and now.
A journey chronicled through the mind of a lawyer and from the heart of a daughter, Little Shoes is both a captivating true crime story and a profoundly personal account of one family's struggle to cope with tragedy through the generations.
A Must Read Couldn't put it down. Like I'll Be Gone In The Dark and The Fact of A Body, a rare and totally successful blend of memoir and true crime. I loved the writing, the story, the research, everything, even as my heart broke for Everett's family. The details are enthralling and the fast-paced chapters will keep you turning pages late into the night. And long after you finish, you'll be thinking about Albert Dyer and those little shoes. Don't miss this one!Well researched and written story People in that time thought their children were safe to wander around as long as they were in a group. This story pointed out their mistake as three young girls are lured from the park and later found murdered. There were doubts in the minds of many at the time and those doubts were also in the mind of the family member who wrote the story many years later. Was the right man caught and executed? With the evidence presented from old records that could be found, I was not convinced. Too many things just didn't fit but the town and law enforcement were very anxious to "solve" the murder so friends and neighbors could get back to their lives without worry.New York Times Book Review-Must Read This book was a labor of love for Ms Everett and the story transended the reader back to the 1930's. Her vivid descriptions placed you there at the time of the tragedy that befell her family and from her depiction the characters came alive. The book was captivating from page one and hard to put down. It definitely left one with lingering doubts about the guilt of Albert Dyer. Truly a great read. I finished it days ago and am still thinking about it.
